The
Basedow forest estate is located in the administrative
district of Demmin and borders directly on the eastern
shores of the Malchin Lake, in the triangle of the towns
Basedow-Seedorf-Schwinkendorf.
The Basedow forest has a
long history dating back a long time. From the now deceased
family line of the Counts Hahn-Basedow and their first
thoroughbred breeds with wild boar hunts behind the
pack, via the imperial fallow deer hunts and numerous
forestry scholars of the Prussian School of Forestry
in Templin and the Eberswald Forestry Academy in the
past, the history after the reunification now links
up with today's owners, the family of Baron von Loë.

In
literature, the Basedow forest district is considered
one of the most important areas of occurrence of
fallow deer in the Federal Republic of Germany,
with decades old main rutting grounds. The care,
preservation and game shooting of the entire stock
of wild animals is handled by us personally.

Within
the scope of the complete recompilation of the inventory
(Forest Management Planning 2006) of the Basedow
forest measuring almost 600ha, the National Archives
were specifically consulted as a reference to stay
true to tradition and reuse old names of the forest
districts (Saupark, Hahnenhop and Fischerhütten).
With a sustainable annual felling of 3600 cubic-m(fm)
solid measure of timber, the Basedow forest is the
main district of our family estate and the chief
producer of numerous types
of timber. |

Due
to the setting of the district in the area of the
"Mecklenburgische Schweiz Nature Park"
and its unique natural beauty, some parts of the
district are located in the ringfenced NATURA
2000 area.
In addition, the
district comprises a range of archaeological monuments.
To this day, the "Saupark" area contains
features of a Bronze Age refuge and can only be
used for forestry to a limited degree.

Along
with the purely forestry-related administration
on our Wolfskuhlenhof estate, we devote a great
deal of attention to development potentials in
the district for future infrastructure opportunities.
Besides
the backlog of pathway construction measures
the
approval of forest
seed stocks
preventative
forest fire protection
the
protection and development of shorelines
we also consider
local tourism potentials.

For a number of years,
we have seen the necessity in the area of private
forestry in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania to refocus
on the relevant market structure of our timber
buyers.
As a co-market player, we joined forces with friendly
private forest owners in the Müritz region
to establish the Forstbetriebsgemeinschaft
(FBG) MORIZANER w.V. ,to improve the timber
supply structure in a joint initiative.

Being
on the FBG steering committee, we complement our
efforts by using the Managing Director of the
FBG as our forest manager.
For local firewood collection permits for own
cutting or spot delivery purchases, please contact
our gamekeeper, Mr. Schepp, who will provide appropriate
instructions.
